Isatou Ceesay

1972 - Today

Date Added:

Isatou Ceesay is a Gambian activist and social entrepreneur, also known as the Queen of Recycling. With four other women, she started the Recycling Centre of N’Jau in her village in Northern Gambia. The project aimed to educate fellow villagers on the importance and benefits of reclaiming waste in plastic recycling, discouraging littering with plastic waste. Over time, the project grew and now empowers women and provides them with support and income. Recently, the project was recognized as an official community-based organization in Gambia, now known as the N’Jau Recycling and Income Generation Group (NRIGG).
