Jody Williams

Date Added:

Jody Williams is the voice for the tens of thousandths of people all around the world that have been killed or injured by buried landmines. She is a Central American Activist who first became aware of the havoc that was caused by anti-personnel landmines. In 1991 to 1992 she organized and became the first coordinator for the International Campaign to ban landmines. She guided the group to success and in 1997 had more than 120 nations sign a treaty agreeing to ban the "use, production, stockpilling and transfer of anti-personnel landmines." She also had them removed from their sites in former battlefields that are now roadways and farmlands.
