Date Added:

Kelly Holmes was born April 19, 1970 is Great Britain she was in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Olympics. She is well- known for her fighting spirit after recovering from a leg injury and claiming the double Olympic gold at the age of 34. At the age of 18 she joined the army and became a British judo champion. After, watching the 1992 Barcelona Games on TV she decided to return to competitive athletics. Holmes then faced a number of injuries. However, that did not stop her when she barely recovered from a stress fracture she won fourth place in the 800m at the Atlanta Games in 1996. Then, in 2000 she ruptured her calf which only gave her six weeks to train for the Sydney Games but she still managed to win a bronze metal in the 800m and was 7th place in the 1,500m. By the time the Athens Games came around in 2004 she was in perfect shape and beat Maria Mutola. Five day later in the 1,500m final she won her second gold. At the age of 34 she was the oldest woman to win the 800m and 1,500m finals. Proving that a woman's age knows no limit. Holmes continues to represent Great Britain's sporting legacy all over the world and campaigns for children's sports.
