Mary Louise McLaughlin was an American artist, she was a ceramic painter and a studio potter from Cincinnati. Mary's father was the owner of successful dry goods company in the city. Her brother was an architect. Mary hadn't taken any art lessons until the year of 1871, where she attended at all girls private school and she had also taken porcelain painting classes which were offered by Mr. Benn Pitman. Mary was the leader of the art pottery movement and had introduced underglaze painting to America and she had also written guidebooks where they introduced pottery to women and this has contributed to the Cincinnati pottery club for women. She was also the first American to work in underglaze China painting and studio porcelain, and her most difficult days were dealing with clays.
